Four locations in different parts of the country. The main campus is Menara City U in Petaling Jaya, a city right next to Kuala Lumpur.

City University Malaysia programmes and faculties

Five levels of study, from Foundation to PhD. For school leavers from Uzbekistan the usual route is Foundation → bachelor’s: the university’s Foundation programmes are designed to lead into its own degrees.

    Foundation

    After school (grade 11). Streams: business, IT, arts and design, communication, English, science.

    Diploma

    A hands-on qualification; diploma holders can progress to a bachelor’s degree.

The university does not publish its international tuition fees online: the current fee schedule comes from its international office. We request it for your programme and work out the full budget. Here is what that budget is made of.

The university awards up to RM20 million in scholarships every year. A scholarship reduces your tuition fees; the university decides the amount, and each award runs for one year.

Admission

Entry requirements and documents

What you need to apply to City University Malaysia from Uzbekistan depends on the level of study.

Where you can start

  • After school

    Foundation (12 months) or a diploma. After Foundation you move on to a bachelor’s degree.

  • After Foundation or college

    A bachelor’s degree. The BBA, for example, accepts a Foundation qualification with a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

  • With a bachelor’s degree

    A master’s, including the MBA. Postgraduate applicants also send a CV and a letter from their employer.

  • English

    Requirements depend on the programme: the BBA asks for CEFR B2 or equivalent. If your English is not at that level yet, start with the General-Intensive English Programme at City Language Centre: 3 months per level, starting in January, April, July and October.

To enter Malaysia your passport must have at least 18 months of validity left, so check it early.

Student life

Student life at City University Malaysia

What students and parents should know before the move.

  • International community

    Students of 60 nationalities, clubs and societies, sports and a student council.

  • Housing

    University hostels are reserved for Malaysian students. International students can ask the university for help with off-campus housing and transport at least a month before arrival. We can suggest options too.

  • Part-time work

    Up to 20 hours a week, only during breaks longer than 7 days and with Immigration approval.

  • Studies and visa

    To renew the Student Pass you need at least 95% attendance for the first renewal, 80% after that, and a CGPA of 2.00 or higher.

  • International pathways

    For example, you can start hospitality studies in Malaysia and finish them in Lucerne through the pathway with IMI Switzerland. In 2026 the university also signed a partnership agreement with the University of Bedfordshire (UK).

  • Climate

    Around 28 °C during the day all year and high humidity, so pack light cotton clothes.

Where is City University Malaysia located?
The main campus is Menara City U in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, next to Kuala Lumpur. The university also has campuses in Cyberjaya and Johor Bahru and a regional centre in Kota Kinabalu. Your campus depends on the programme.
How much are City University Malaysia fees for international students?
Tuition fees depend on the programme. The international office issues the fee schedule for international students, and we request it for you. On top of tuition fees, you pay the application and EMGS visa fee of about RM3,810 when you apply, and the university suggests budgeting about RM15,000 a year for living costs.
Can I apply without IELTS?
IELTS is not the only option: the application form accepts IELTS, TOEFL, MUET or other results, and requirements depend on the programme. If you have no certificate or your score is too low, you can start with intensive English at City Language Centre. We confirm the exact conditions for your programme with the university’s international office.
When are the City University Malaysia intakes and application deadlines?
There are three intakes a year: January, May and September (some programmes list January/February, May/June and September/October). The visa alone takes about 6–8 weeks, so we recommend applying at least 3 months before your start date and starting to prepare 4–6 months ahead.
Are there scholarships for international students?
Yes. International students can apply for undergraduate awards such as the Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Leadership Excellence and Sports scholarships, and for the Post Graduate Research Scholarship at master’s and PhD level. The university sets the amount, and awards run for one year.
Is there accommodation for international students?
University hostels are for Malaysian students. City University Malaysia helps international students with off-campus housing and transport if they send a request at least a month before arrival.
Is City University Malaysia a public or private university?
Private. It has been operating since 1984, gained university status in 2016, and its programmes are accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
Does City University Malaysia offer medicine?
No. Medicine (MBBS) and dentistry are not on its programme list. Health-related options include nursing, biomedical sciences and occupational safety and health. To become a doctor in Malaysia you could look at MAHSA University, for example.
Can I work while studying?
Yes, with limits: up to 20 hours a week, only during breaks longer than 7 days and with approval from Malaysian Immigration.
Is it the same as City University London or City University of Hong Kong?
No. City University Malaysia is a Malaysian private university founded in 1984 in Petaling Jaya. It is a separate institution with its own programmes.
